The Volcanic History
The Basal Volcanic Complex (ca. 160,000 to 100,000 years) Lakki Pyroclastics and Avlaki ComplexA 3 to 4 m pumice fall deposit marks the first sub-Plinian explosive period
of an early caldera-forming event. It is followed by flow and surge units and
terminates with a final fallout. In the northern basal parts of the caldera,
exposed at cliffs along the main road, these pyroclastics reach a total thickness
of approximately 5 to 10 m.
