Systematic periodic measurements of thermal waters from Nisyros, Kos and Yali

Weekly measurements of temperatures and conductivity of all thermal springs on Nisyros island are carried out by local personnel (Fig. 30). The results are standardized and transferred to ETHZ.

Water samples from thermal springs from Nisyros island ,Yali island and Kos are taken every three months in order to analyze for major and minor components (Na, K, Ca, Mg, alkalinity, SO₄, Cl, F, NO₃, NH₄, Li, SiO₂, B,) as well as dissolved gases (CO₂, H₂S, CH₄, H₂, N₂, O₂, Ar, He), stable isotope ratios of C, O and H, and occasionally also their noble gas isotopic character (³He/⁴He, ²⁰Ne/⁴He).

Thermal Infrared (IR) Camera Imaging for Ground-Based Remote Thermal Monitoring:

A thermal tracer camera (Thermo Tracer NEC TH7100) has been used in precise thermal investigations in the Nisyros caldera which monitor fumarolic and hot spring temperatures, as well as in the Solfatara fumarolic field and in the Vesuvius summit crater.
